Last weekend I was invited to San Diego Mission Bay Resort with my family for a weekend getaway, and I am so excited to share our experience with you! Let me start by telling you that this resort has everything a family desires for an unforgettable vacation, and if you keep reading I will tell you why!
As we walked to our spacious ocean view suite, which was elegantly designed, we found a beautiful kid's tent that was set up in our room. It was so fun for my kid to have a personal tent in the room to cozy up in it whenever he wanted. It made him feel so important that he had a tent set up just for him.
When we were done admiring the tent, we walked to our private patio with the breathtaking view of the ocean. There were two lounge chairs with a table making it impossible to do anything else but to lay there and enjoy the scenery.
The room itself had two queen-size beds, a private bathroom, refrigerator, coffee maker, a huge flat screen TV, a sofa, a table, and ottomans. The entire room was sanitized before our arrival making me feel so safe staying there with my family. The complete list of the resort’s safety measures can be found here: Stay Safe, Start Living.
The hotel is newly remolded and it is on the scenic waterfront of Mission Bay Park with 357 luxurious rooms, which is ideal for exploring the nearby San Diego attractions, as well as its “barefoot chic” beach lifestyle. With 4,000-square-foot outdoor pool area, spa and fitness center, five tennis courts, gift shop, restaurants, and poolside grills, you can find everything a family needs to have a splendid time at a resort.
As a true pool lover, I loved the resort pool which is complete with kids’ activities, wading pool, and tempting snacks and beverages from the pool bar. What I loved the most was that the kids got to spend hours splashing in the kid's pool, while the adults got to relax nearby. If you want to relax to the max, you should rent a cabana with oversized plush lounge chairs. With your rental, you will also get a pitcher of lemonade or tea, two bottled waters, and snack basket.
And if you ever get tired of lounging by the pool, you can find so many activities just a step away from the pool area on the beach. You can rent bikes, skate boards, jet skis, motor boats, sail boats, paddle boards, and kayaks for an hour or more. I suggest reserving your activity ahead of time on busy weekends. Reservations can be made at actionsportrentals.com or by calling (619) 275-8945.
If you decide to spend a few hours on the beach while the kids play on the sand, you can rent portable beach chairs for free. If you stay at the resort on a Saturday night, you must join for a Saturday S’mores night. This fun and free activity starts at 6:00 pm at one of the beach fire pits at the resort, but is a seasonal thing, so check with the concierge first.
Some of the rooms on the beach side have fire pits on private patios, so you can make your own S'mores with your family. Then around 8:00 pm, you get to see SeaWorld's fireworks while you are enjoying your stay at the resort.
If you want to jump-start the day, grab a cup of coffee and fuel up with an acai bowl, or wide array of fresh juices and pre-made sandwiches at Mission Joe restaurant. Right in the heart of the resort, you can find Plaza Del Sol, the perfect place to relax and savor delicious small, shareable plates while sitting around a fireplace.
At Solrisa, a poolside stand, you can enjoy Baja-Latin inspired dishes including lobster nachos and ceviche, as well as traditional fries and salads.
At the Covewood restaurant you can find wood-fired pizzas, char-grilled steaks, fish tacos, mac & cheese and more. We had breakfast at the Covewood two days in a row, and I fell in love with their Alyssa's Benedict. Yummy!
Room service is not available at the present time, but you can order food from any of the restaurants and enjoy on your patio, balcony, or in your room. If you ever need anything, you can just text the front desk, and they will respond to your text promptly. In fact, the staff checked with us via text several times making sure we are enjoying our stay. The staff was very nice, and they made us feel at home.
You can also picnic throughout the resort, enjoy a cookout in the park, or at the beach fire pits enjoying spectacular views from the comfort of your hotel room, private balcony, or patio.
Ditch the kids for a few hours (leaving them with an adult), and treat yourself to a therapeutic massage or a facial at Spa Brezza. Spa Brezza is located on the resort and offers luxury treatments such as HydraFacial, Massage, Intraceuticals Oxygen Treatments, Salon Services and more.
If you own a dog, I've got a good news for you! The resort welcomes up to two 75lbs dogs per room, so your furry friends can join you.
You can get a hotel room as low as $199 per night depending on the type of the room, and time of your stay. We had a great time at the resort, and we’ll definitely go back. San Diego Mission Bay Resort is located at 1775 E Mission Bay Drive, San Diego, CA 92109. You can make reservation online or by calling 1-619-677-1161.
